Introduction

To develop all aspects of clinic service, education and research, our hospital established the committee on Research and Development to integrate all researches, innovation, and development related affairs in 2001. The department of Medical research was founded in year 2002, which composed of R &D office, co-laboratory, and animal laboratory. Researchers with PhD are recruited to team up to help doctors and medical students with research, to provide excellent administration support, to supervise research execution and to improve the quality and quantity of researches. Moreover, to encourage clinical trial researches and international cooperation, clinical trial center has been established in 2008 to practice the holistic-health-care mission, which is to improve the performance on basic and clinic researches.

Faculty

The department composes of 1 director, 2 division chiefs, 1 PhD researcher, 3 Lab technicians, 1 veterinarian, 4 administration staffs and 1 part-time staff.

Characteristic

In addition to development of all relevant basic and clinic researches, the department will focus her researches in stem cell application and regeneration medicine in the future.

Hardware

There are 2 core-laboratories which provide 31 units of experimental benches, 2 meeting rooms and 1 cell culture room. Besides general facilities, advanced facilites include in vitro confocal microscope, laser capture microdissection microscope, flow cytometer, high performance liquid chromatography, image analyzer, multi-function microplate reader, real-time PCR machine and program freezer, etc. Animal laboratory offers caging system, operation and animal anesthesia-related facilities and space. R&D office provides research-related statistics consultation and the research and education-related VCD.

Education plan

Not only training courses of the principles and procedures of bench work and animal studies but also trail studies are provided for research assistants and residents to develop their essential laboratory skills.

Research plan

Facilitating the establishment of research and application on stem cell therapy and regeneration medicine, coordinating the cooperation with government and industries, as well as continuously educating faculty members to provide assistances to research technology are our projects. The research environment is also improved progressively by PDCA cycle and Benchmarking.

Prospects

To supplement our hospital’s core competences, to improve the clinical service quality and to save the service cost of holistic-health-care, and to build a research team to promote the health-technology, we will focus on the following:

1) Stressing on inter-hospital teamwork and building up proper collaboration between government and industries.

2) Promoting innovative researches and patent applying to directly benefit people with practical medication.

3) Recruiting senior Lab techinicans and researchers with PhD degree to form competitive teams.

4) Enhancing the application of basic and clinic researches, researchers training and upgrading research performance to attract younger physician scientists into our team.
