New Findings in Immunoregulation Mechanism Helps with the Development of Immunotherapy and Targeted Drug

As COVID-19 pandemic raged the world, adequate immunity becomes the key to defend invasion by viruses. Far Eastern Memorial Hospital Department of Medical Research Director Yen-Lin Chu collaborated with Tri-Service General Hospital and international scholars from The Johns Hopkins University to study the multi-functional modulation of immunocytes. Findings show that activating the Wnt signaling pathway will help boost the multi-functionality of T cells. The PRMT1 molecules playing the key role in activating Wnt signaling pathway can be used as the targeted immunotherapy of T cells. This publication of research was accepted by the top international journal on “Journal of Clinical Investigation,” which provides more new research direction for immunoregulation and immunity boosting.

 

The immune system is continued by B cell, T cell, and Neutrophil. When virus invades the body, the immune system is instantly activated and will effectively defy viruses through joint collaboration. Yen-Lin Chu stated that T cell concurrently expresses a diversity of cytokine reaction and hence T cell plays the key role in controlling viral infection. The multi-functionality of cells activates the immunoreaction of human boy. Yen-Lin Chu further stated the multi-functional molecular modulation of T cell is similar to the stem cell. Further research finding reveal that the activation of Wnt signaling pathway will help boost the multi-functionality of T cell.

 

Previous researches lack understanding of Wnt signaling pathway and the functional differentiation of T cell. Yen-Lin Chu explained that Wnt signaling pathway can maintain stem cell without differentiation but at the original state. Moreover, the characteristics of massive self-replication by stem cells leads to the research findings with implication of the correlation between the strength of human immunity and the reproduction capacity of T cell.

 

Far Eastern Memorial Hospital Department of Medical Research Director Yen-Lin Chu also stated that the research method directly adopts the human T cell and common virus to conduct immunoreaction study, which different from the research conducted using animal models. Hence, the research findings will better help the development of subsequent immunology medicines. The first author of this research paper, National Defense Medical Center assistant professor Bo-Yi Sung expressed that the research underwent years of testing before finding the role of PRMT1 in triggering immune response. There are currently activated PRMT1 small molecule drugs for therapy.

 

Although the research finding shows that Wnt signaling pathway plays an important role in disease prevention and immunotherapy, Yen-Lin Chu also stated that the research is still under study and exploration, which subsequently will require more research and the hypothesis of clinical investigation and empirical study, thereby making more contribution to the treatment boosting immunity.
