Department of Psychiatry
at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital

Thank you for visiting the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital,
Department of Psychiatry. Although we are relatively a young department, established only in 1990, we are characterized as being a group of dedicated professionals whose main goal is to safeguard the community’s mental health through our core expertise which range from psychiatric neuroscience to psychopharmacology and psychotherapies. The department has a strong commitment to the dynamic understanding of an individual's current social context and feelings, and past behaviors and experiences, viewing the mind and brain as one and on its role as a general hospital service where psychiatry is foremost a medical specialty.
The clinical staff consists of 8 consultant physicians (with specialties in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction medicine, sexual disorders, sleep medicine, etc.), 3 residents, 3 nurse specialists, 3 psychologist, 3 social workers, 2 occupational therapists, and 17 nurses. Our services are available via the outpatient clinic, inpatient acute ward care, emergency room, consultation-liaison psychiatry, community psychiatry, individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, occupational evaluation and therapy,
Research and nurturing of the younger members of the group are the other areas which we are focusing on.

In the future and in conjunction with the extension plan of the entire hospital, we could expect the department to include a separate ward for neurotic disorder, geriatric and chronic patients with newer and better treatment modalities geared towards a more
ideal quality of mental health care. Concomitantly, clinical research and teaching quality would also strived to attain worldwide standard so as to benefit not only the nearby communities but also the whole country.
